3 LGBTQ Advertisements: The Best Advertisements of All Time
As the pride month around the world has started, more and more brands are stepping out to express their strong stance about the LGBTQ community. Pride advertising has become a popular trend among many major brands as the LGBTQ marketing campaigns target a customer base worth $835 billion approximately. Similarly, Google Consumer Survey revealed that consumers are prone toward brands that are inclusive of diversity among people.
Now the question lies, how did Pride Month start?
To answer this we have to time travel and reach the year of 1969. This year witnessed many secretive clubs and communities, which were still considered illegal by society. In June of this year, in New York, police raided the Stonewall Inn, which was a homosexual club. This raid led to a violent protest among the gay communities and the neighboring residents, who supported the cause. The uprising further encouraged a nation-wide protest towards legalizing same-sex marriage and the gay rights movement.
In 2015, the Supreme Court legalized gay marriage in the Country, making this year historic. This event inspired other nations to take daring steps towards establishing a society that accepts all. Hence, all the people, of all diversities, celebrate June as the month of Pride to remember about the Stonewall Uprising and to celebrate love, peace, and tolerance.
The success of this movement was further aided by many famous brands. These brands empowered the cause through their marketing strategies and showcased bold themes of passion and love through all colors. In this article, I will share the 3 most amazing LGBTQ advertisements of all time that took branding and marketing to new heights.
United Colors of Benetton- Blanket
The United Colors of Benetton campaigns have always been known to be thought-provoking, rebelliously portraying visual ads. Similarly, this ad fearlessly showcases love, which is beyond race, color, and gender, at a time when homosexual relations were still considered a taboo. This unusual family looks directly towards their audience, implicitly expressing unashamed freedom of choice and expression.
United Colors of Benetton, a global fashion brand, has built a sense of identity by inculcating themes that are sensitive and will inspire their consumers. They use a marketing strategy that is heavily based on celebrating all cultures and catering to a big customer base by constantly shocking the viewers through their themes, who will invariably stop and stare at the advertisement with awe and empathy!
Ray Ban- Never Hide
If talking about posh and style, Ray Ban’s eye-wears have always been the epitome of a dashing personality and polished perspective. Hence, their campaigns also reflect the same attitude of originality and audacity. Ray Ban’s “Never Hide” campaign showcases a series of visual elements in their advertisements that foreground themes based on self-expression. This advertisement is a part of Never hides Campaign, featuring two upright gay men in fashionable business attire, holding hands, and walking with an air of dignity and confidence.
Advertisements based on story-telling have always attracted customers. Ray Ban’s marketing campaigns have focused on stories that will encourage their customers to be themselves, irrespective of being judged. Their campaigns tap into the universal desires of every individual, which is to seek an unrestricted life. This skillful way of understanding the audience’s deepest desire has led them to be a leading brand in the world.
Tiffany & co.- Will You?
Tiffany & co “Will You?” ad campaign featured stories of real couples, which also included a gay couple. This brand, which is famous for wedding rings, has always showcased traditional concepts in their campaigns. Hence, a sudden expression of welcoming love in all shades was greatly appreciated by their audiences, including celebrities. Moreover, photographing real couples made their campaign look authentic and the brand more approachable.
Tiffany & co has been marketed in such a way that they appear to be the right brand to opt for if someone wants to make their marriage proposal just perfect! They have always adopted a marketing strategy based on current social trends and crafted their visuals romantically and emotionally. Hence the right tone, if captured accurately in advertisements, will give your brand an extra edge.
Through these 3 advertisements, you can see that emotions can affect consumer choice. Moreover, a brand that speaks and engages with its consumer’s opinions create a strong presence in the business world.

How to Make Advertising Posters with DocHipo
With DocHipo you can create amazing advertisement posters and images for your brand quickly in this exciting month of June. Here I will guide you with a step-by-step easy process of converting your ad poster ideas into a reality, right from scratch.
Step 1: Select a Template or Customize it!
Signup to DocHipo. Then click on the Poster from the template option. There are tons of templates from where you can simply choose or create your own from the very beginning. For this theme that celebrates the LGBTQ community, I will make a completely customized version of the ad poster. Hence, I will select the blank template with a ‘plus’ sign in the center.
Step 2: Fill in the Details
As the new page appears, here you will have to provide document information. Your name will be auto-populated as the document owner or you can change it to the name of your team member. Then, fill in the document name and the description information box. In my case, I have filled the document name as “Ad Poster”, and described the document as “A perfect theme for this Pride month”. After you are done filling in the details, you have to click the “Next” button.
Step 3: Time to Design it!
As you are directed in the workspace to create your awesome design, you have the option to select your dimension or go with the auto-filled specification. I have gone with the auto-filled selection, which is an A4 sized, portrait-style layout.
Now, I have selected the ‘Graphics and Media’ option from the side panel to look for interesting images that I can place in my ad poster. As the bar expands you will see many options that will give you the flexibility to choose your vision. I have gone for the option ‘Pictures’ to select the right image for this theme. You can scroll down through the images to look for your preferred option or directly type the option you are looking for in the search tab. I have typed ‘People’ to look for my desired image and bam! Here it is:
Pride month is all about colors, so let’s select a bright red background, which will immediately grab attention.
After that, let us put some trendy texts. For my theme, I have selected two different fonts to make my ad poster look stunning, which are “Oswald” and “Poppins”. So, the plan is to start with a nice message and then shout out what offers I am providing. From the top bar, on the workspace, you have options to change the fonts, resize it, change the color and even add shadows.
But, something still feels missing!
Let’s add interesting Lines to this design to make it stand out. You will find this option on the side panel, under the “Graphics and Media” bar. I have selected my first shape (Lines) and placed it behind the first caption, by pushing back its layers and also increasing transparency.
Step 4: Download the Document
As I am satisfied with this design, my next step is to download this ad poster. To download your design, you have to click the dotted option on your top-right corner and select ‘Download’. You have the option to choose your File type and Resolution. If you want to print your document, it is recommended to download high quality. I have selected my file-type as PNG and high-resolution image quality.
After clicking on the “Download” button, your document will be ready to showcase itself and enable you to create your brand identity.
